Griffith Observatory Engagement | Sarah + David

As you know, 2020 has proven to be a… year. Our hearts have been breaking for all the 2020 couples who have had to postpone or rethink their weddings. We’re especially feeling it with our #vondycouples who had intended on having a wedding this year.

Sarah and David are one of those couples who have had to make the difficult decision of postponing their original wedding plans. These two have handled this change with such admirable grace. They are truly a model couple for showing patience and understanding with their vendors and the situation itself. We feel so lucky to know a couple like them, let alone that they are in our Vondys family!

We like to think the universe has rewarded them for being so positive and kind about the many shifts they’ve had to tackle this year…

They were supposed to be getting married THIS weekend… (first weekend in Oct 2020) but alas. But then it’s also supposed to be over 100 degrees this weekend, so blessing in disguise??

We were also supposed to do this engagement session in March right as, well, you know. We may have been forced to postpone their session, which they were so understanding and kind about! It actually turned out that by pushing their session a bit, it allowed for a little more time to brainstorm and ultimately have one epic Griffith Observatory engagement session! Definitely worth the wait in our opinion!

Seeing as Sarah and David both work for NASA, is there really a better location for a Los Angeles engagement session?

On top of that, in all our years of shooting (10 of them!) we have never experienced Griffith Observatory so empty! Although certain areas were closed and off limits, it was so refreshing to have so much space to comfortably socially distance and capture photos we’ve always wanted to create without huge crowds.

As these two also enjoy spending their time outdoors (they recently returned from what sounded to be an amazing camping trip in the Sierras), of course, we had to start their session off in Griffith Park as well.

Sarah and David wanted a more rustic look for their session in nature and decided to glam it up a bit for their Griffith Observatory portion of the session. Don’t they look incredible?? Sarah’s dress!! And Dave cleans up quite nice as well.

Don’t know what to wear for your engagement session?

We hear this all the time! It’s so common to have trouble deciding what to wear or worry it won’t look great on camera. All Vondys Couples are given an Engagement Session Guide with tips and tricks we’ve learned throughout our 10 years of doing this! On top of that, we always welcome them to send us photos of what they are thinking and we’ll weigh in! We want all of our couple walking in to their session as confident as possible.

Our favorite part about this photo is that it’s so fitting for Sarah and David as we mentioned above, they both work for NASA! Thanks universe for helping these two have an amazing session, giving us low crowds, beautiful sunset and a visible moon!

See you two for your Athenaeum wedding in Spring 2021!
